The median real estate contact form asks for **7** fields, more than in any of the 6 industries compared, and 55.3% of real estate forms ask for 7 or more. Buyers and sellers who want to talk to an agent are asked more questions up front than a visitor to a law firm, an insurance agency or a SaaS company.

## Summary

A couple is thinking about selling their house next spring. They open a local agent's website and click "What's my home worth?". The form asks for their address, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, square footage, timeline, whether they are also buying, their price expectations, and then their name, email and phone. By the ninth question they have closed the tab.

A contact form is how most real estate leads start online. Each field is a question a buyer or seller has to answer before an agent can call them, and every extra question gives them another reason to stop. Agents want qualified leads, but a lead that never finishes the form is not a lead at all.

The median real estate contact form asks for **7** fields, more than in any of the 6 industries compared. 55.3% of real estate forms ask for 7 or more fields, and one in ten asks for 15 or more. At the same time, 43.3% of real estate websites offer no contact form, online booking or live chat at all.

## What we measured

In September 2026 we checked the websites of 423 US real estate agents and brokerages listed on Google Business Profiles, looking at each homepage and up to two linked pages. On each site we found the largest contact form and counted its fields, and we recorded whether the site had a tap-to-call link, online booking or live chat. 208 of the 423 real estate websites had a contact form. We compared real estate with five other industries: insurance, home services, SaaS, law firms and financial advisors.

A field is any box, dropdown, checkbox or text area a visitor can fill in, such as name, email, phone, property address or timeline. We counted only forms with three or more fields, which leaves out search bars and newsletter sign-ups. The median is the middle form: half ask for fewer fields, half for more.

## Real estate contact forms are the longest of 6 industries

55.3%

of real estate contact forms ask for 7 or more fields.

That is the highest share of the 6 industries, ahead of home services at 47.2% and more than twice the 22.8% of financial advisor forms. The median real estate form asks for 7 fields, one more than the median in insurance, home services, SaaS and law firms and two more than financial advisors. Leaving out the longest 5% of forms, the average real estate form also asks for 7 fields.

Real estate forms run long when agents try to qualify the lead before they call: buying or selling, price range, timeline, whether the buyer is pre-approved, which neighborhoods. Each of those questions helps the agent, but each also costs completed forms, and the buyer or seller has not yet decided which agent to trust.

## One in ten real estate forms asks for 15 fields or more

The most common real estate form has 7 to 9 fields, used by 37.5% of forms. Half of all real estate forms ask for between 5 and 9 fields, one in ten asks for 14 or more, and 10.1% ask for 15 or more.

Only 20.7% of real estate forms keep it to 3 or 4 fields, the length of a simple "contact the agent" form with name, email, phone and a message. Most agents have chosen to ask more, which puts the burden on the visitor at the moment they are least committed.

## Half of real estate websites have no contact form

49.2% of real estate websites have a contact form with three or more fields on their homepage or main pages. 53.4% have a tap-to-call link, a phone number that dials when tapped on a mobile phone, and 5.4% run live chat. 43.3% offer no contact form, no online booking and no live chat, leaving only a phone number or an email address.

46.5%

Real estate websites on WordPress have a contact form 46.5% of the time, against 52.8% on other or unidentified platforms. Forms on those other platforms are also longer, with a median of 7 fields against 6 on WordPress.

## What this means for real estate agents

Split the contact form from the qualification. Ask for name, phone or email and one question, buying or selling, then collect price range, timeline and neighborhoods on the call or in an optional second step. A buyer or seller who has sent their details is a lead you can work; one who abandoned a nine-field form is not.

If your website has no contact form on the homepage and main listing pages, add one next to your phone number. Keep property search separate from the contact form, so a visitor who wants to talk does not have to fill in search filters first.

Then measure how many visitors start the form and how many finish it. Our landing page optimization services (https://www.suffdigital.com/services/cro/landing-page-optimization) test shorter forms, two-step forms and different questions to find the version that brings in the most leads you can actually close.
