## Summary

Someone who uses a wheelchair is planning dinner with friends. Before choosing a restaurant, they check Google: is there a step at the door, an accessible restroom, somewhere to park? If the listing says nothing, they either phone ahead or pick somewhere that does say.

Google Business Profiles, the free listings that show a business in Google Search and Maps, have a set of accessibility fields for exactly this: accessible entrance, parking, restroom and seating. For a customer who uses a wheelchair, those fields decide whether a visit is possible before they leave home. For a business, they are free to fill in and turn a maybe into a visit.

**30.4%** of local businesses list none of them, about three in ten. Businesses customers visit in person, such as medical offices, funeral homes and restaurants, list accessibility more than nine times in ten. Trades that work at the customer's home rarely do, and listings nobody manages lag behind the rest.

## What we measured

We analyzed 23,164 US Google Business Profiles across 54 local business categories, as they appeared on September 23, 2026. For each profile we recorded the accessibility attributes Google displays, and compared the results by category, by whether the owner has claimed the listing, by whether it links a website and by number of reviews.

Attributes are the short facts Google shows on a listing, such as "wheelchair-accessible entrance". A profile counts as listing wheelchair access when it shows any wheelchair attribute: accessible entrance, parking, restroom or seating. Some profiles also state that a feature is not available, which still tells a customer something. A profile is claimed when its owner has verified it with Google and can edit it.

## Three in ten local businesses say nothing about wheelchair access

30.4%

of Google Business Profiles list no wheelchair accessibility information.

The other 69.6% list at least one wheelchair feature, and 55% specifically say whether the entrance is wheelchair accessible, the first thing a visitor needs to know. 2.9% of profiles state that a wheelchair feature is not available. That is useful too: a customer who knows there is no accessible restroom can plan around it.

16.3% of profiles show no attributes of any kind, not accessibility, not payment options, nothing. Those listings give customers the least to go on, and they account for over half of the profiles with no wheelchair information.

## Offices customers visit almost always list it

98.3%

of orthodontist Google Business Profiles list wheelchair access.

Healthcare, funeral and financial offices lead: funeral homes list wheelchair access 95.5% of the time, optometrists 94.7%, financial advisors 94.6% and dentists 92.4%. These are places people go to in person, often including older and less mobile customers, so owners have a clear reason to fill the fields in and customers a clear reason to look.

Most of these profiles go beyond a single attribute. Funeral homes list an accessible entrance 94.4% of the time and optometrists 93.5%, so a visitor can see not only that the business thought about access but where the accessible way in is.

## Trades that visit customers rarely list it

Electricians list wheelchair access on 8.4% of their profiles and plumbers on 11.9%, followed by locksmiths at 19.9% and HVAC companies at 20.6%. These are businesses that go to the customer, so many have no public premises to describe and the fields have little to say.

## Managed listings show accessibility more often

How well a listing is kept up shows in its accessibility details. 72.8% of claimed profiles list wheelchair access, against 61.6% of unclaimed ones. Profiles that link a website list it 76.9% of the time, against 53.5% of profiles without one.

The rate also climbs with review count, from 63% of profiles with no reviews to 79% of those with 100 or more. Busy, well-run businesses tend to complete their listings field by field, and accessibility is one of the fields that separates a complete listing from a bare one.

## What this means for local businesses

If customers visit your location, open your Google Business Profile, go to the accessibility section and answer every question that applies: entrance, parking, restroom and seating. Be accurate. If a feature is not available, say so, since that also helps customers plan their visit.

If you only work at customers' homes, the fields may not apply, but check that nothing incorrect is showing, because Google can add attributes from customers' answers. If you have an office or showroom that customers visit, treat it like any storefront and fill the fields in.

Then look at the rest of the listing: claim it if you have not, link your website and keep reviews coming, since the profiles that list accessibility are the ones kept up in every other way too. Our local seo packages (https://www.suffdigital.com/seo/local-seo-services) include a full review of Google Business Profile attributes, accessibility included.
