Copy stat ## Summary A garden supply shop has sold online through WooCommerce for years. The store runs on WordPress, on hosting the owner pays for, with a stack of extensions for shipping, tax and payments. Every update is the owner's job. A growing number of merchants in that position are deciding to move. WooCommerce is the free store builder that turns a WordPress website into an online shop, and for years it has been one of the most common ways small businesses sell online. Where those merchants go next matters for anyone running a store: it shapes where apps, developers and support are heading, and every store that switches platform goes through a migration that can cost search traffic. WooCommerce still runs on **987,336** homepages, well ahead of Shopify's 729,553. But it ran on 121,411 fewer than a year earlier, an 11% drop and a larger number than every website on Webflow combined. Among the busiest stores that switched platform, 264 went from WooCommerce to Shopify. ## What we measured HTTP Archive is a public project that loads the homepages of millions of websites in a real browser every month and records the software each one runs. We counted the homepages where WooCommerce was identified in each monthly snapshot from October 2024 to September 2026, between 14.7 million and 16.4 million homepages a month, and divided by the total for that month. The one-year change compares September 2025 with September 2026. A platform's share is the percentage of all homepages in that month's snapshot that run it. The share is the fairer measure over time, because the number of homepages HTTP Archive loads changes from month to month; between September 2025 and September 2026 the total fell 2.6%. We also looked at the 1 million most visited websites, as ranked by Google's Chrome UX Report, and counted those whose platform in March 2026 differed from their platform in September 2025. ## WooCommerce lost more websites than Webflow runs 121,411 fewer website homepages ran on WooCommerce in September 2026 than a year earlier. WooCommerce went from 1,108,747 homepages in September 2025 to 987,336 in September 2026, a drop of 11%. The share figure, which accounts for the 2.6% smaller total of homepages tracked, fell from 6.98% to 6.38%, a relative drop of 8.5%. Either way, WooCommerce shrank several times faster than the web as a whole. The scale is large. The 121,411 websites WooCommerce lost in a year outnumber every website on Webflow, 110,959. Over two years the drop was 13.4%, or 152,412 websites, from 1,139,748 in October 2024. ## The drop sped up in 2026 WooCommerce held around 7% of website homepages through 2025 and reached its highest count, 1,145,588 homepages, in December 2024. The fall came in 2026: its share dropped from 7.13% in January to 6.38% by September, and its count fell below 1 million in August 2026. The difference is that store owners have a clear hosted alternative built for selling, and the switcher figures show many are taking it. ## Where WooCommerce stores went Among the 1 million most visited websites, 348 WooCommerce stores moved to another platform between September 2025 and March 2026, and 109 moved to WooCommerce, a net change of -239. Of those that left, 264 went to Shopify. The switcher data suggests store owners are trading the plugin updates, hosting and security work of a self-hosted store for a hosted platform that handles them. Any platform move changes page addresses, so the stores that make it well are the ones that map every product address before they switch. ## What this means for WooCommerce store owners If you are staying on WooCommerce, keep WordPress, WooCommerce and every extension updated, and check that your hosting runs a supported PHP version. Updates are the one job a self-hosted store cannot skip. If you are leaving, list every product, category and blog address with traffic or backlinks, map each one to its new address before you launch the new store, and test the redirects on day one.
