# Website Migration Service

Change platform, host or domain without losing the traffic, rankings and sales you have already paid to build.

We map the current site, protect the highest-value URLs first, run a staged rehearsal, and check the new build before launch so recovery is measured instead of guessed.

## What Our Website Migration Services Include

These six things decide whether you keep your traffic. We take responsibility for all of them.

(06)

### • Every old page gets a new home

Every address your site serves gets one destination on the new site, with the visits, links and sales beside it, so you can see what each redirect protects.

### • Nothing gets lost in the export

Exports quietly drop a paragraph, a page title, the descriptions on your images. We compare old pages against new ones field by field while there is still time to fix it.

### • The new site is checked before Google sees it

We run the checks on your staging site that a search engine would run on a live one, then fix faults in the template. One change repairs every page on that layout.

### • The hidden code that search engines read moves too

Tags in your templates tell Google which version of a page counts and what language it is in, and set the star ratings and link previews people see. None of it shows on the page, so it survives only if the new templates keep it.

### • A switchover you can undo quickly

Days before launch we shorten how long the internet remembers your old server. That one setting decides whether reversing a launch takes minutes or hours, and it costs nothing.

### • Post-launch monitoring and fixes

For thirty days we compare traffic, rankings and error reports against the numbers recorded before the move, then fix leftover dead links, missed pages and template issues while they are still small.

See our process •

• Problems we solve

## What usually goes wrong when a website moves

These are the six failures we see most often in website migrations, and every one is preventable.

Diagnose my site •

01

### Traffic drops the week you launch

Visits fall and do not recover on their own. The cause is rarely a penalty: old addresses were not mapped, so every visitor and every link that used to land there now hits nothing. Most moves go this way: 64.3% of websites that switch platforms rank for fewer keywords on Google's first page afterwards (Website Migration SEO study (https://www.suffdigital.com/resources/data-studies/organic-traffic-after-platform-switch)).

02

### Redirects piled on top of redirects

After two or three moves, one old address can bounce through three others before it lands. Search engines waste time on the journey, and deleting any rule in the middle breaks the whole chain. How often it happens depends partly on the platform: 32% of Magento business websites have a redirect problem or a broken link in their first 3 pages, nearly six times the 5.4% of Wix business websites (Website Link Errors study (https://www.suffdigital.com/resources/data-studies/redirect-health-by-platform)).

03

### Your test site turns up in Google

Either the unfinished copy of your site gets found and competes with the real one, or the instruction hiding it goes live and tells Google to forget your website. Both go unnoticed for days.

04

### Pages that were quietly earning links

An old page other websites still link to never appeared in your sitemap, so it never made the plan. Today it returns an error, and the credibility those links carried stops at a dead end.

05

### Content that did not make the trip

The page loads and looks right, but the copy is shorter, a title is missing, or the images lost their descriptions. Pages that ranked because they were thorough are now thin.

06

### Internal links still pointing at old addresses

Your menus and in-page links still aim at old paths and only reach the new ones through a redirect. It works for people, doubles the work for search engines, and hides real broken links.

## Our Website Migration Process

(06)

Phase 01

Week 1

### We inventory the live site and baseline performance

We crawl your live site and join the result to your analytics, Search Console and backlink data. You get every page you serve, what each one earns, and the figures the project is judged against. The week numbers beside each step are an estimate, not a final timeline: your real dates are agreed in the proposal.

Phase 02

Weeks 1-2

### We agree where every page is going

Each old address gets one new destination, written as a build requirement before templates are finalized. You approve the list early, so an export cannot quietly decide your scope.

Phase 03

Weeks 2-4

### We check the new site while it is still private

We crawl your staging build, compare it against the live site, and give you a fault list ordered by damage. Fixes go into the template, so they happen once.

Phase 04

Week 4

### We rehearse the switchover on a copy

The full launch sequence runs against a clone and every step gets timed. Then we reverse it for real, so a rollback has a known duration rather than a hopeful one.

Phase 05

Launch day

### We monitor the launch hour by hour

We work the launch window with your team, checking pages, redirects and orders hour by hour. If anything falls outside the agreed range, the decision to fix or roll back is already in writing.

Phase 06

Weeks 5-8

### We monitor recovery for thirty days

Every week we compare traffic, rankings and error reports against your pre-move numbers. Leftover dead links and missed pages get cleared while they are still small.

Get started •

• What is actually at stake

### A migration does not win you new customers. It decides how many you keep.

The traffic, the rankings and the sales already exist. A move is the moment they are most exposed, which is why almost all of the work happens before launch day.

•

Your page list comes from a crawl and your backlink data, not the old system's export

•

You approve the redirect plan before building starts, so the build follows the plan

•

Results are compared against the figures recorded before anything moved

• Migration risks we plan around

### Four things a move puts at risk, and where we stand on each.

All four cost real money. If the launch breaches the limits agreed in advance, we put you back on the old site, and that is a real option because the rollback is already rehearsed.

•

Rankings and traffic. Unmapped pages and stale internal links are caught on staging, before a launch date is set

•

Sales during the switchover. Every minute of a broken checkout is money that never arrives, so the window is timed first

•

Your reporting history. Analytics setup, goal tracking and tag containers need a named owner

•

Connected systems. Your CRM, email, invoicing and payment tools all point at addresses that are about to change

> “I can't say enough good things about Matt Suffoletto and the team at Suff Digital. I've worked with Matt for years, and his knowledge, expertise, and professionalism are second to none. He truly understands SEO, website management, and digital marketing at a level that delivers real results. Matt helped me get my DJ business ranked on the first page and even the number one spot on Google in an industry with thousands of competing DJs. Those results had a tremendous impact on my business. Most recently, on Memorial Day, my website came under attack from internet hackers. I sent Matt an email expecting a delayed response because of the holiday, but he replied almost immediately, identified the problem, took action, and resolved the issue before it could cause further damage. If you're looking for a digital marketing and web services company that delivers results and stands behind its clients, I highly recommend Suff Digital.”

Scott KingBusiness Owner

## Website Migration Deliverables

A website migration service should leave you with more than a live site. Everything below is yours to keep.

Month One

Pre-migration baseline

✓ A full list of your pages and what each one earns — Every address your site serves today, with its visits, sales and the sites linking to it. It doubles as the before picture.

✓ Approved URL destination plan — A document you read and approve before building starts, with the technical rule that delivers each part.

✓ A written risk list with named decisions — What could go wrong, what would trigger it, how far it would spread, and who decides what happens.

Months 2-3

During the move

✓ The new site checked against the old one — Both crawled and compared fault by fault, ordered by severity and grouped by the template causing them.

✓ A list of anything that did not come across — The copy, page titles and image descriptions missing from the new pages, in your hands before launch.

✓ The rehearsal, timed step by step — The full switchover run against a copy, reversal included, with every step timed. That is where your launch window gets its duration.

Ongoing

Post-migration comparison

✓ Rollback plan written before launch — What gets reversed, by whom, and inside what window, agreed in advance so the launch team is not deciding under pressure.

✓ Thirty days of before and after — Weekly comparisons of traffic, rankings and indexed pages against your pre-move figures, with a cause named for every change.

• Compare options

• The long version

## What website migration actually involves in 2026

The long version, for anyone planning a platform, host or domain change and trying to work out where the risk actually sits.

A migration is not a file transfer. Every address on the site changes hands, and search engines have to relearn all of them while your customers carry on using it.

### The addresses decide whether the traffic survives.

Every page that ranks today has an address that other sites link to and search engines have indexed. If that address changes without a rule sending the old one to its replacement, the ranking does not move across. It stops.

So the map from old to new is the migration. It gets built from a crawl of what actually exists rather than from the remembered page list, because older pages with links are often missing from internal notes.

### Data rarely moves shape for shape.

Products, customers, orders and posts are stored differently by every platform. Something always has to be reshaped, and the decisions about what to drop are easier to make deliberately in week one than under pressure in launch week.

The parts that catch people out are the ones teams rarely list: the fields a plugin added, the redirects already in place from the last move, and whatever a connected system expects to find at a particular address.

### The rehearsal is most of the value.

A switchover that has been practised on a copy is a routine morning. One that has not is an unplanned outage with an audience. The rehearsal is also where you find out how long the reversal takes, which is the only number that matters if something goes wrong.

Agree what would make you turn back before you start, in writing. If the failure condition is undefined, the decision gets made under pressure at the worst moment.

## Common Questions

Expect $2,500 to $75,000, and the lower end is small sites and startups. Four things decide where you land: how many pages a crawl finds, whether your data copies across or has to be reshaped, whether the design is rebuilt or carried over, and how much switchover support you need from us. So what it costs to migrate a website is quoted from your own crawl, fixed in writing before work starts. Four things decide where you land: how many pages a crawl finds, whether your data copies across or has to be reshaped, whether the design is rebuilt or carried over, and how much switchover support you need from us. So what it costs to migrate a website is quoted from your own crawl, fixed in writing before work starts. A host offering a free website migration moves files and databases only, not the redirects and connected systems where the real website migration cost sits."
