Summary
A bakery owner types "a website for my bakery with an online order form and a gallery of our cakes" into an AI builder and, a few minutes later, has a working site to click through. Thousands of people are now putting real websites live this way.
AI website builders let someone describe a website in plain language and get working pages back, with no designer or developer. Lovable, Emergent and Base44 are the best known. How fast they are growing matters to business owners deciding how to build their next site and to designers deciding where their work is heading.
They are growing fast. Websites built with the three builders grew 162.6% in nine months, from 5,309 homepages to 13,939. Lovable accounts for almost all of it, and Emergent grew more than tenfold.
What we measured
We used the HTTP Archive, a public dataset that tests millions of websites every month and records the platform each homepage runs on. HTTP Archive began recognizing websites built with Lovable, Emergent and Base44 in December 2025, so we counted their homepages in every monthly test from December 2025 to September 2026, ten months in all.
An AI-built website here is a homepage recognized as built with one of the three builders. We compared the September 2026 total with established website builders in the same month, using each builder's share of the 15,470,478 homepages tested.
Lovable drives almost all of the growth
Lovable is the clear leader, with 87% of AI-built homepages. Its count grew 158.5% in nine months and rose every month from January onward, with the largest single jump in April 2026, when it added 1,629 homepages.
Emergent is much smaller but grew faster in percentage terms, from 164 homepages in December to 1,856 in September, an increase of 1,031.7%. Base44's count fell from 477 in December to single digits by February, so Lovable and Emergent together added 9,091 homepages while Base44 lost 461.

Growth came every single month
The combined count of AI-built websites rose every month from January to September 2026: from 4,785 homepages in January to 7,091 in March, 10,277 in May, 12,653 in July and 13,939 in September. That is steady growth month after month, not a single spike after a launch or a promotion.
The count nearly tripled from January to September. Most of the monthly gains came from Lovable, whose biggest month, April, added 1,629 homepages, while Emergent added more homepages every month without a break. For a category that did not show up in the data at all before December 2025, that is a steep curve.
How AI builders compare with established builders
At 13,939 homepages, AI-built websites make up 0.09% of all websites tested, about 62% of Framer's 22,566. Webflow runs 110,959 homepages and Wix 421,515, so the established builders are still many times larger.

The gap is closing from a standing start. Nine months after first appearing in the data, AI builders are already more than half the size of Framer, and they are growing far faster than any of the established builders.
What this means for business owners and web designers
AI builders are a fast way to get a first version of a site or a landing page live, and worth testing for quick campaigns. For a main business site, check what you get: whether you can edit content without prompting the AI again, whether you can export the code, and who fixes it when something breaks.
For designers, the growth curve is steep enough to plan around. More clients will arrive with an AI-built draft, and the work shifts toward structure, content, accessibility and conversion, which still need a human review. A website design company can take an AI-built first draft and turn it into a site that ranks, loads fast and turns visitors into customers.
