    Summary

An online store sells well on Facebook and Instagram ads. Its customers also spend hours on TikTok and Pinterest, but the store has never tested either, because its only tracking code is the Meta Pixel. Without a pixel for each platform, it cannot measure what TikTok or Pinterest ads would sell, so it never finds out.

A social ad pixel is a snippet of code from an ad platform that reports visits and purchases on a website back to that platform. Each platform has its own: the Meta Pixel for Facebook and Instagram, the TikTok Pixel, the LinkedIn Insight Tag and so on. Counting how many a website runs shows how many platforms a business actually advertises on and measures.

For most, it is one. 84.7% of websites with a social ad pixel run only one, and it is almost always Meta's. 17.4% of all websites track social ads, and 2.7% track two or more platforms. B2B companies and the biggest websites are the exceptions: 36.1% of B2B websites and 42.7% of the 1,000 most visited websites that track social ads use two or more platforms.

    What we measured

We used the public HTTP Archive crawl of September 2026, which loads the homepages of 15,470,478 websites on a mobile device and records the software each one uses. For each homepage we counted how many of seven social ad pixels it loads: Meta, TikTok, X (Twitter), Pinterest, Snap, LinkedIn and Reddit. We report the share with at least one, the share with two or more, and, among websites with any pixel, the share running more than one.

We split the results by popularity, using Google's Chrome UX Report, which ranks websites by real Chrome traffic, by website type and by country domain. Online stores are websites running store platform or shopping-cart software. B2B websites are those running a business-to-business marketing or sales tool such as HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot or 6sense.

    One platform is the norm

    84.7%
of websites with a social ad pixel run only one.

Of the 17.4% of websites with any social ad pixel, 84.7% stop at one and 15.3% run two or more, which works out to 2.7% of all websites. The larger the website, the more likely it is to add platforms: 42.7% of the 1,000 most visited websites that track social ads run two or more, against 11.7% of pixel websites outside the top 10 million. Websites ranked 10,000 to 100,000 have the highest multi-pixel rate overall, at 9.9%.

Bigger websites are more likely to have the budget and staff to test and measure a second platform. Smaller businesses more often put their whole social budget on one platform and never install the tracking that would let them compare.

B2B websites spread across the most platforms

B2B websites have the highest multi-pixel rate of any website type: 11.5% run two or more social ad pixels, and 36.1% of B2B websites with any pixel use more than one. B2B marketers often run LinkedIn alongside Meta to reach business buyers, and each platform they measure needs its own pixel.

Shopify is the opposite. Nearly two in three Shopify stores run a social ad pixel, 62%, but only 4.8% run two or more, so 7.7% of Shopify stores that track social ads add a second platform. Online stores overall (4.6%) and Australian websites (4.5%) sit above the web-wide 2.7%.

Meta dominates, and every other platform is small

Multi-platform tracking is rare because only one platform has broad adoption. The Meta Pixel is on 15.5% of websites; the next most common, the TikTok and X (Twitter) pixels, each sit on about 1.6%. For a website to run two platforms, it almost always has to add one of these much smaller tags to Meta.

    What this means for advertisers

Relying on one platform is a risk. When Meta's costs rise or results dip, a business with no other pixel installed has no data on where else its customers could be reached. Install the pixel for any platform you might test, even before you spend, so the audiences and conversion history are ready when you do.

Pick the second platform by audience: TikTok or Snapchat for younger consumers, Pinterest for visual products people plan to buy, LinkedIn for B2B, Reddit for research-heavy purchases. Then compare every platform on the same measure, cost per sale or cost per qualified lead, not clicks.

A paid social agency such as Suff Digital sets up tracking across platforms and moves budget to whichever one sells at the best cost.
