    Summary

The first warm weekend of spring, a homeowner turns on the air conditioning and gets warm air. It is Saturday afternoon, and she wants a technician to look at it early next week. The first HVAC website she opens has a phone number and a line saying the office opens Monday at 8 am. The second has a Book Now button with a Monday afternoon slot. She takes the slot.

Online booking lets a customer pick a time without a phone call, at any hour. HVAC companies will always take breakdowns by phone, but much of their work is planned: seasonal tune-ups, maintenance plan visits, filter changes and estimates for new systems. Those customers often research on evenings and weekends, and a website that only takes calls during office hours asks them to wait until someone picks up.

Most HVAC companies still work that way. 74.2% of HVAC company websites offer no way to book online, and 25.8% do. The phone is the default: 82.6% of HVAC websites have a tap-to-call link, and 56.5% offer tap-to-call with no online booking.

    What we measured

In September 2026 we checked the websites of 712 US heating and air conditioning companies listed on Google Business Profiles, looking at each homepage and up to two linked pages. On every site we recorded whether a visitor could book online, call with one tap, fill in a contact form or start a live chat, whether the site showed reviews or testimonials, and which platform it was built on. We measured online booking on the 694 sites not built on Squarespace.

A site offers online booking when it uses a scheduling tool, such as ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber or Calendly, or shows a Book Now, Book Online, Schedule Online or Request an Appointment button or link. A tap-to-call link is a phone number coded so that tapping it on a phone starts the call. A contact form counts when it has three or more fields to fill in, which leaves out search bars and newsletter boxes.

Three in four HVAC websites take no bookings online

    25.8%
of HVAC company websites let customers book service online.

The other 74.2% ask customers to call, send a form or wait. Field service software such as ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro and Jobber includes online booking that can be switched on and linked from the website, so a company that already runs one may only need to turn the feature on.

The platform a company's website runs on makes a large difference. 33.6% of HVAC company websites built on WordPress offer online booking, against 19.6% of those built on Wix and 17.4% of those on other or unidentified platforms.

HVAC companies send customers to the phone

82.6% of HVAC company websites have a tap-to-call link, the highest of the contact routes measured and far more than take bookings online. 26.1% offer both, the combination that serves every customer: call for a breakdown, book online for a tune-up. 56.5% offer tap-to-call but no booking, and 1.5% offer booking with no tap-to-call link.

Contact forms are common too: 47.5% of HVAC company websites have one with three or more fields, usually a quote or service request form. 8.4% run live chat. At the far end, 11.8% of HVAC company websites offer none of the four direct routes: no booking, no tap-to-call link, no contact form and no chat.

HVAC companies that show reviews take more bookings online

54.9% of HVAC company websites show reviews or testimonials. Those companies are much more likely to take bookings online: 33.8% of HVAC websites with reviews offer online booking, against 20.2% of those without, a gap of 13.6 points.

Both features mark a website built to turn visitors into booked jobs. A homeowner choosing who to let into the house for a day wants proof that others trusted the company and a quick way to get on the schedule. Companies that give one tend to give the other.

What this means for HVAC companies

If your website takes no bookings online, start with planned work: seasonal tune-ups, maintenance plan visits and estimates for new systems. Keep breakdowns on the phone, with the number tappable at the top of every page. If you already use field service software, check whether its online booking feature is switched on, then put a clear Book Now button in the header and on your main service pages.

Plan for the seasons. Open online booking for spring cooling tune-ups and fall heating checks before the rush, and promote those slots on the homepage, so customers book ahead instead of calling on the first hot or cold day. Add your best reviews next to the booking button, so the proof sits beside the decision.

Booking matters most for the visitors you pay for. An hvac ppc agency can send ad clicks to pages built around one service with a booking button and a tappable number, so fewer paid visits leave without contacting you.
