Summary
A Shopify brand sees competitors going viral on TikTok and wonders whether it is missing the next big sales channel. The data on Shopify's own stores gives a clear answer about where merchants actually spend: Facebook and Instagram first, TikTok barely at all.
A tracking pixel is the code an ad platform needs on a store to measure its ads. It records visits and purchases so the platform can report which ads led to sales, target people like the buyers and retarget visitors. On Shopify, the pixel is installed by the platform's sales channel app, so a store with the TikTok Pixel is almost always one that has connected TikTok to advertise or sell there.
Very few have. 2.9% of Shopify stores run the TikTok Pixel, against 61.1% for the Meta Pixel, about 21 times as many. And the stores that do use TikTok have not left Meta: 89.5% of them run both pixels.
What we measured
We used the September 2026 HTTP Archive crawl, a public record of the technology on website homepages. We took every homepage built on Shopify, 729,553 stores, and counted those that load the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, the TikTok Pixel or both. These are the tags installed by Shopify's Facebook and Instagram sales channel app and its TikTok sales channel app.
We repeated the count for the 19,205 Shopify stores among the most visited 500,000 websites, and compared Shopify stores with online stores on all platforms on other social tools: the Pinterest, Snap and LinkedIn tags, Instagram feed widgets, affiliate and influencer platforms, and customer photo review tools. An advertising pixel is the tracking code of any of 12 ad platforms.
TikTok reaches under 3% of Shopify stores
21,513 Shopify stores run the TikTok Pixel, against 445,809 that run the Meta Pixel. Put together, 61.4% of Shopify stores run at least one of the two, and 38.6% run neither.

The gap reflects where Shopify merchants put their ad money. The Facebook and Instagram sales channel app installs the Meta Pixel as part of setup, and most Shopify stores have it. TikTok's ad platform and shop are newer, and its short-video format suits some products far better than others.
TikTok is an add-on to Meta, not a replacement
19,257 Shopify stores run both pixels, 2.6% of all Shopify stores, and only 2,256 run TikTok's pixel without Meta's, 0.31%. That means 89.5% of Shopify stores with the TikTok Pixel also run the Meta Pixel.
Stores add TikTok after Meta, not instead of it. The natural path is to build a working Facebook and Instagram program first, then test TikTok with the same products and a new style of video. Almost no Shopify store bets on TikTok alone.
What this means for Shopify store owners
Get Meta tracking right first. If you run Facebook or Instagram ads, install the Facebook and Instagram sales channel app so the Meta Pixel and server-side purchase events are both in place; every other social channel you add will be judged against that baseline.
Then look at TikTok as an opening rather than a crowded market. With the TikTok Pixel on 2.9% of Shopify stores, most of your competitors have no TikTok purchase data at all, so the stores that test it now build audiences and learn what creative works before the channel fills up. Install the TikTok sales channel app, send it the same purchase events Meta gets, and give it a real test budget. A tiktok marketing agency can turn the products that already sell on Meta into TikTok-native video that earns its own results.
