    Summary

A skincare brand has been running TikTok ads for a few months and has no way to see whether they sell anything. Clicks show up in TikTok's dashboard, but purchases do not, because nothing on the store reports them back. The fix is the TikTok Pixel, a snippet of code that tells TikTok when an ad viewer visits the store and buys, so the platform can measure sales and find more people like the buyers.

Each pixel install is a business deciding that a platform's ads are worth measuring properly. Counting installs across millions of websites month by month shows which ad platforms businesses are committing to and which they are leaving.

TikTok is gaining. The TikTok Pixel is on 15.5% more homepages than a year ago, 255,413 in September 2026, and that month it passed the X (Twitter) ads pixel for the first time. In November 2024 X was on twice as many websites. TikTok is now the second most common social ad pixel after Meta, which is still more than nine times as common.

    What we measured

We used 24 monthly snapshots of the public HTTP Archive crawl, from October 2024 to September 2026. Each month HTTP Archive loads the homepages of 15 to 16 million websites on a mobile device and records the software each one uses; September 2026 covered 15,470,478 homepages. We counted the homepages that load the TikTok Pixel each month and divided by the number of homepages checked that month, so the share adjusts for changes in the number of websites checked.

The one-year change compares September 2025 with September 2026, and we measure long-run growth from November 2024. For comparison we counted the X (Twitter) ads pixel, the Reddit Pixel and embedded Twitter widgets, the timelines and buttons that pull X content onto a web page, over the same months.

TikTok Pixel growth started in August 2025

    +15.5%
more website homepages ran the TikTok Pixel in September 2026 than a year earlier.

For most of the first year, nothing moved. From November 2024 to July 2025 the count stayed between 198,912 and 208,966 homepages. From August 2025 it rose in most months, adding 34,237 homepages over the year to September 2026. Since November 2024 installs are up 28.4%, and almost all of that came in the second half of the period.

As a share of all websites, the TikTok Pixel rose from 1.39% to 1.65% in a year, an 18.6% relative gain, slightly faster than the raw count because the number of websites checked shrank. The climb is steady rather than a single jump, the sign of businesses adding the pixel one by one as they start or expand TikTok campaigns.

TikTok has passed the X pixel

In November 2024 the X (Twitter) ads pixel was on 395,574 homepages, about twice the TikTok count. In September 2026 the TikTok Pixel stood at 255,413 against 253,066 for X, the first month TikTok came out ahead. The lines crossed because both moved: TikTok gained while the X pixel lost 20.7% of its websites in the last year alone.

Embedded Twitter widgets, a separate sign of X on websites, fell 26.2% over the year. The Reddit Pixel grew faster than TikTok in percentage terms, up 44.8%, but from a base about one sixth the size, so TikTok added far more websites.

TikTok is still a fraction of Meta

The Meta Pixel is on 2.39 million homepages, 9.4 times the TikTok count. For most advertisers, TikTok is a second platform added to a Meta setup, not a replacement. That makes TikTok's growth a sign of businesses spreading their social budgets, and it leaves most of them without TikTok measurement.

    What this means for advertisers

If you run TikTok ads without the pixel, install it before spending more. Without conversion data, TikTok's system optimizes for clicks and views rather than sales, and you cannot compare its cost per purchase with Meta's. Add TikTok's server-side Events API as well, so purchases still count when a browser blocks the pixel.

The timing favors early movers. With 1.65% of websites running the pixel against 15.5% for Meta, far fewer of your competitors are feeding TikTok purchase data, so the audiences and learning you build now are less crowded. Test with a product that suits short video and a budget big enough to reach TikTok's learning phase.

Suff Digital's tiktok marketing agency team sets up TikTok tracking and runs campaigns alongside Meta so both are measured the same way.
